Many astute lawyers have speculated that the 2012 election petition ruling has three dimensions as to how it should take; some say the ruling might be for President John Dramani Mahama to either step down for Nana Akufo-Addo to be President, or the President retains his seat or a possible re-run in the affected areas or in the whole country depending on the level of irregularities in the 2012 election.
In as much as these renowned lawyers have suggested some of the possible ways the ruling can go, the final decision rests in the bosom of the Supreme Court judges as the law says.
In any of these scenarios, a member of the Communications Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Davies Opoku, believes the judges’ final decision will go a long way to strengthen the country’s democracy. He is also of the firm belief that no one will cause chaos after the ruling.
He however wants the judges to muster courage and dispense justice without fear or favour stressing “we don’t want any compromise position, that the ruling should favor both parties, NO!”
Davies, who also doubles as the Director of Operations for Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) further stated that Ghanaians are patiently waiting for the truth adding that though the truth will hurt others, it must be told as it is.
“If the ruling favors the sitting President, Ghanaians will accept it and if the ruling should go in favor of Nana Akufo Addo, Ghanaians must as well accept it,” he stated emphatically.
