Ghana defender John Boye has denied reports suggesting Stade Rennes want to release him

Ghana defender John Boye has rubbished reports claiming French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes are considering releasing him off his services.

Instead the 26-year-old has revealed Les Rouges et Noirs want to offer him a new deal at the club.

Reports carried by Ghanaian online portal claimed officials at the Stade de Route de la Lorient are considering either releasing the Black Stars center-back or allow Nigerian international Onyekachi Apam to leave the club.

The reports came as a surprise as Rennes were battling to keep hold of the solid defender as giants Olympique Marseille, Lyon and Sunderland have all shown interest in him.

He squashed the reports in a short interview with Ghanasoccernet.com and revealed Rennes are in line to offer him a new deal which he would consider.

“No (it is not true) they don’t want to release me instead they want me to sign again,” he said.

Boye was one of Rennes’ key players last season, making 21 Ligue 1 appearances.

However, it is obviously clear that former Ghana captain John Mensah who was handed a short term contract last season will not remain at the club as there are no indications he will be offered a new deal at the club.
