Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, at the weekend advised politicians against ostentatious lifestyle.
He entreated them to emulate the lifestyle of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who sacrificed his talents and intellect for the nation.
Mr Aidoo gave the advice at an inter-denominational church service at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, organised in honour of the late President Mills in Sunyani on Sunday.
He expressed worry that many people nowadays regarded politics as a “lucrative business” through which they could acquire wealth and use their riches for themselves at the expense of the nation.
Mr Aidoo said Ghana would have developed speedily if all politicians were like the late President Mills, who allowed national interest to override his personal interest.
He noted that “many politicians who came to politics without anything now have 10 and more mansons “at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian’’.
Describing the late President Mills as a true statesman, the Regional Minister advised politicians to be patriotic and ensure that national resources entrusted to their care were utilise judiciously for the betterment of the nation.
In a sermon, the Right Reverend Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong, Chairman of the Brong-Ahafo Presbytery, admonished politicians to eschew selfishness and political vendetta to sustain national peace.
He noted that all those things which led Ghana to a revolutionary state were being replicated in the current democratic dispensation.
Rt Rev Sarpong emphasised that witch hunting in Ghana’s politics had polarized the nation as it had created disunity among families, relatives and friends.
