Al Ain striker Asamoah Gyan has revenge against Al Ahli on his mind in the upcoming UAE Super Cup match on August 30.
The two big Dubai clubs will go head-to-head again following the successes of Al Ain and Al Ahli in the Premier League and the Etisalat Cup respectively.
The game will see Asamoah Gyan come up against Grafite – the two strikers have been in deep competition for last two season’s top scorer award but the Ghana international’s form has just been too good to be matched by the Brazilian.
The game will also see Al Ain play against their former coach Cosmin Olariou who crossed carpets to join their arch rivals this summer.
Al Ahli got the better of Al Ain last season – handing an away 6-3 thrashing to the Garden city club in the first round of the league.
Ahli however had their return encounter abandoned following crowd trouble with the full points and three goals handed the eventual league champions – that game was tied 2-2 at halftime.
Ahli again triumphed over Al Ain on their way to capturing the Etisalat Cup with a deserved 2-1 win.
All these ingredients combined makes the August 30th clash a must watch game and Asamoah Gyan is seeking to dish his own piece of revenge even though admitting it will be a difficult game as popularly anticipated.
“We’re trying to take revenge for last season,” Gyan said.
“They [Al Ahli] beat us and took us out in the semi-finals of the President’s Cup so it will be an important game for the fans.
“They (fans) cannot wait for this game and we the players as well.
“It’s going to make the game very interesting and hard to play. We also changed coach so it’s going to be a very difficult game.”
Al Ain have however avoided playing Al Ahli in the preliminary group of the Etisalat Cup but will face off in the 7th and 20th round of the first and second round respectively in the UAE top flight.
