Flashback: Some NDC youth in confrontation with the police

Irate National Democratic Congress Youth in Salaga in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region last night destroyed properties and bill boards bearing the name of President John Dramani Mahama.

The youth were protesting over the decision by the president to nominate Mohammed Amin Lukman as district chief executive for the area.

The Youth marched through the streets causing mayhem and threatening to set ablaze the National Democratic Congress party vehicles and constituency office. The threats were not carried out due to the timely intervention of some opinion leaders of the area.

The youth maintained that their protest was to send signal to President John Mahama that his decision to nominate Mohammed Amin Lukman ahead of three shortlisted candidates was not welcomed.

A member of the irate Youth Seidu Aziz Jawula told Joy News that the president nominee is not known to them in the district and warned the nominee not to set his foot in Salaga.

The NDC Youth in Salaga had earlier this year warned that it will kick against any move by the government to impose a district chief executive who is not part of three shortlisted candidates from the district.

This is the second time within two weeks that a group has protested the President’s choice of a District chief executive in the Northern Region, after a similar incident in Wulensi last week.
