Contrary to rumours that one of the country’s oldest annual pageants, Miss Nigeria,has been cancelled, the competition is still in vogue.
A scoop was let out last week by a tweet bird, that this year’s edition of the pageant which held recently in Lagos, may be the last for now, as the organisers are currently in court battling over ownership of the pageant.
Reacting to the tweet, a source told Matinee that although the case is still in court, the winner of Miss Nigeria 2013, Miss Ezinne, retains her crown. Also, for the Creative Director of the pageant, Miss Eloho, “the pageant isn’t witnessing any hiccup that could warrant its being cancelled.”
The pageant’s publicist who’s simply known as Fidelis refuted the news, insisting that the pageant which recently held in Lagos has not been cancelled. Managing Editor, Daily Times, Gabriela Osamor, said “as far as I’m aware, the pageant held on the 6th of June without any controversy, and it will continue to hold. Th winner of Miss Nigeria 2013, Miss Ezinne Akudo, remains the winner and no one is contesting it. ”Meanwhile, newly crowned Miss Nigeria 2013 has hit the ground running. The Queen, Akudo Ezinne Anyaoha, has added her voice to the campaign against child marriage in Nigeria.
