Tamale, July 26, GNA – Mr Bede Ziedeng, Northern Regional Minister, on Wednesday appealed to traditional and religious leaders in the region to support government’s efforts at maintaining peace to build a new corporate image to attract investors.

    
‘It is sad that our Region in the past, has been noted for acts of indiscipline and violence, and it has gone a long way to tarnish the good name of the region. The situation is not the best for the corporate image of our Region,’ he said.

    
The Minister made the appeal at the celebration of first anniversary of the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, held on Wednesday at the Jubilee Park in Tamale.

    
Grief and state of melancholy characterized the event, which was patronized by people from all walks of life in the Metropolis.

 
The weather remained solemn and cloudy throughout the event depicting the mood, when the President Mills died last year.

    
The Minister, said the late President was as a man of peace and patience and advised the people, especially the youth to emulate his persona by resorting to dialogue in settling disputes so that resources being wasted on security could be channeled to the provision of development projects.

      
Mr Ziedeng said the region had huge potential and natural resources, which needed to be harnessed to promote development and improve the living standards of the people..

     
He asked Ghanaians to accept the verdict of the on-going Supreme Court petition to ensure peace and development.

    
As part of the day’s anniversary, the Minister laid a wreath on behalf of President John Mahama, while another wreath was laid on behalf of the family of the late President.

    
Air Commander Philip Kwabina Mensah laid one on behalf of the security services while the Gulpe-Na Alhaji Abukari Alhassan laid one on behalf of traditional leaders in the region.
