Late Prez Mills Deserves The Honour Bestowed On Him – Kwesi Pratt

Despite the hullabaloo about the renaming of the National Hockey Stadium by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, seasoned journalist and the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr. after expressing shock about the renaming, believes the late President was a true sportsman and deserves the honour.

According to him, Late Prof Mills’ immense contribution and initiatives factored to the completion of the Hockey Stadium which hosted the Africa Hockey tournament in 2009.

Speaking on Adom FM, Mr. Pratt believes with his knowledge in sports, Late John Evans Atta Mills involvement to the sports fraternity in the country was overwhelming before his demise.

“In sports, he (Late Prez Mills) did very well and contributed to the development of sports in the country. At a tender age in Achimota School, he was a cricket player, in Legon (University) he was part of the school hockey team as well as the football team. With his talent and skills in hockey playing, he (late Mills) played for the National Hockey team and captained the hockey team for a period.

“…Late President Mills was also a member of the Black Stars management committee and a very key management member of Accra Hearts of Oak. Again he was the acting Chief Executive of the National Sports council and later became the chairman,” he said.

Adding “When Prof Mills became the Vice-President of Ghana, Ghana did not have any recognized hockey pitch in the country, and with his vision we constructed a modern hockey pitch which is up to the international standard now. Prof Mills has really helped in the sport fraternity in this country”.
