The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, says the Ghana Premier League ranks high on the continent and that there should be more recognition for it.

He believes the GPL has grown in leaps and bounds even in the face of the general perception that the GFA has given more focus to the Black Stars than the local league, which he does not agree with.

“The view that we have looked at the Black Stars more than the Glo League runs contrary to my thinking and appreciation of the current situation,” Nyantakyi told Supersport.com

“It is not correct that there has been success at the national team level to the detriment of the Ghanaian league.

“The domestic league has also recorded some remarkable successes that people are not oblivious of.” he went on.

The GFA President explained that seeing the difference between Ghana and the more established leagues would help in better appreciating how well the local league is doing when measured against other leagues in Africa.

“If you compare the Ghanaian league with that of England, Germany, Italy, you will get it completely wrong but if you look at it in the African context, you will find that Ghana’s league is one of the best.

“Recently, we had the President’s Cup and we saw TP Mazembe and Enugu Rangers playing against some of our teams.

“What I saw from Enugu Rangers did not match the level of any of our Premier League teams while TP Mazembe did not show anything that exceeded what we have here.

“I have seen league matches all across Africa and I can boldly say that Ghana’s league ranks very high on the continent.”
