NABBED! Benjamin Tutu

A 37-year-old spare driver, who attempted to escape after stabbing his colleague driver to death over GH¢10, has finally been grabbed by the Adenta Police.

Suspect Benjamin Tutu was arrested in a bush near Lakeside Estates when he attempted to escape in a taxi.

The deceased, Stephen Adjagli, 25 years, met his untimely death on Friday July 5, 2013 at Adenta Japan Motors.

Confirming the story to the media, DSP Stephen Ahiatafu, Adenta District Police Commander, said suspect Benjamin Tutu, lived in a kiosk at Japan Motors while the deceased also lived in another area.

The deceased, Stephen, had a Toyota Corolla which he used for commercial purposes during the day and when he closed in the evening, he gave it to Benjamin to operate for the night, after which the sales was shared.

On Thursday, July 4, 2013, at about 8:46pm, Benjamin went to Stephen at Paloma to collect the vehicle from the latter to operate, as usual, for the night.

The following morning, around 4:00am, Stephen, in the company of his girlfriend, (name withheld) who is also the eyewitness in the case, went to Benjamin’s house to take possession of the vehicle and also collect his share of the money.

According to information gathered, Benjamin told Stephen that sales was very poor the previous night, and that he had only GH¢60.

The suspect also said he had already used GH¢20 out of the money and was willing to give Stephen GH¢30.

The victim, Stephen, declined to take the money and asked the suspect to add the GH¢10 to it for fuel since there was no fuel in the vehicle.

This resulted in a scuffle between the two friends.
In the course of their scuffle, Benjamin dashed into his kiosk and picked his dagger and stabbed Stephen in the neck.

Stephen moved two steps away, fell on the ground and died instantly.

Sensing danger, Benjamin went into his kiosk, picked some of his belongings and bolted before the matter was reported to the police.

Around 12:00pm, Benjamin called one of his colleagues to get him a taxi to escape since he had been declared wanted.

With the help of the friend, police grabbed him in the bush where he was hiding and awaiting the vehicle.

Upon interrogation, Benjamin begged for forgiveness and explained that he had taken some drinks the previous night, which was why he committed the act.
