Coach CK Akunnor says any team playing Ghana at the U20 World Cup ought to be afraid because of the immense fighting spirit of the side.

The Black Satellites have rallied from a shambolic start to their World Cup campaign in Turkey to now progress to the last four of the competition.

After what many term a ‘lucky’ qualification to the knockout stage, Ghana have managed to come back from losing positions to beat Portugal in the Round of 16 and Chile in the quarter finals.

A last gasp goal from striker Ebenezer Assifuah helped the Black Satellites secure a thrilling win over Chile on Sunday to set up a semi final clash with France – the same side Ghana lost to in its opening match.

Skeptics are however unhappy with the team’s alarming concession rate through which they believe the team is riding on sheer luck.

But former Black Stars captain CK Akunnor says the side’s amazing team spirit atones for its defensive frailties for which any opponent should be afraid of.

“Any team meeting Ghana should be afraid,” he told Accra-based Radio Gold.

“The way the team fights back whenever it is down should be a source of worry for any opponent.

“Though conceding too many goals is a worry, this is not a league where goal difference counts, this is a one-off game and only a win counts.

“And therefore if we can score more than our opponent, we will obviously win the game and that is what is needed.”

Ghana will now come up against France in the semi finals on Wednesday – a repeat of the side’s opening group game where the Black Satellites lost to Les Bleuets 3-1.

The Black Satellites will however be without three key players; Lawrence Lartey, Joseph Attamah and Moses Odjer for the semi finals as they will be serving a one-game suspension.
