Tragedy…6yr Old Boy Guns Down 8yr Old Cousin

A six-year-old boy (name withheld) on Sunday, at close range, shot down his eight-year old cousin, Christiana Adwo Djuko, who died on the spot.

The sad incident occurred at Bediase, a village near Sokkode Dwaaso around Akyem Kukurantumi in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Akyem Tafo Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Information gathered by the Daily Heritage indicates that the incident occurred at around 4pm on Sunday when the grandfather of both the accused and the deceased, Dada Kojo Djuko and other family members had left the house to harvest cocoa pods of the grandfather, leaving behind the boy and the other siblings to take care of the deceased who was sick and asleep.

Mansah, a 4-year old girl who was also in the house told the paper that, the boy went into their grandfather’s room and took his single barrelled gun and shot at Adwo Djuko, the deceased in a close range on her right shoulder through to the chest, killing her instantly.

She added that, after seeing blood gushing out from the deceased, they rushed to the farm to inform their grandfather and other family members about the sad news; however, when they got back home Adwo Djuko had already passed on.

The case was thereafter reported to Akyem Kukurantumi Police command by some of the family members leading to the arrest of Dada Kojo Djuko, the grandfather whose gun was used while the 6-year old suspect was also picked alongside.

ASP John Yeboah, the Akyem Tafo District Police Commander in a telephone interview confirmed the story explaining that the case has been transferred to the District command and investigations are still on-going, but was quick to add that the grandfather of the children will be arraigned before court as soon as investigations are over.

Meanwhile, the 65-year old grandfather is in police custody while the suspect has been granted bail.

During investigations it was revealed that the boy was seen playing with his other siblings before the incident occurred.

The parents of the suspect, Stephen Kujo Djuko and Ama Rita arrived at the village from Accra where they both live on the night of the incident and are assisting investigations into the matter.
