Ghana midfielder Mohammed Abu is confident is career is no the rise after a successful loan spell with Lorient and wants to stay in the French top-flight permanently.

Manchester City midfielder has spoken about his need for stability after being loaned out five times in over three years since arriving at the Etihad.

The midfielder joined the Ligue 1 side in January 2013 after a loan spell with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano and managed to make seven appearances for Les Merlus.

Abu, who has not played for his country since the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, is happy that he got some playing time in France which will keep his career on track.

“It has been great for me because I achieved what I had in mind. My expectation was to get enough playing time and show myself to everybody. People can testify that I made use of the short time I had at Lorient,” he said.

However, he revealed it was quite a task especially as he was on loan but his abilities were evident enough to give him the shot he deserved.

“It was not easy but when you have the talent, you will be fine. After two or three appearances, people began to notice me and what I could do. I just adapted to the culture and the style of play as quickly as possible.”

Abu has been sent on loan to Norway, Germany and Spain after signing for Manchester City in 2010 and Lorient is the latest stop in the player’s career.

Abu signed for City in 2010 but was immediately loaned out to Norwegian club Stromsgodset, where he made his professional debut.

He has since played for Eintracht Frankfurt and Rayo Vallecano, as well as a second spell at Stromsgodset.

The 21-year-old Ghanaian who is currently on loan to French side FC Lorient told L’Equipe: “It is very difficult to always change your team. You have to adapt, show your worth.”

After several loan moves across Europe, Abu has said he is enjoying life in France and has comfortably settled in at his new club despite being unable to speak any French.

“Cheik Toure and Jeremy Aliadiere both speak English so I feel at ease (here),” he added.

Although the loan offer doesn’t include an option to buy, Lorient could possibly to look to extend the deal – a move which would be welcomed by Abu.

“My future? I will be happy whatever will happen. It would be nice to find a place to settle in,” he said.
