An Agona Swedru-based evangelist, Nana Kwame Acquah, 26, has appeared before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court for possessing Indian hemp.
Acquah’s involvement was exposed by his own brother, one Joseph Acquah.
When he appeared in court on a charge of possessing narcotic drug, Acquah’s plea was not taken and the presiding judge, Mr N.K.E. Osam, remanded him in prison custody pending further investigation until June 25.
The facts, according to Inspector S. Opoku-Mensah, is that the complainants are police personnel stationed at Agona Swedru.
According to Inspector Opoku-Mensah, at about 8:30 p.m. on January 1, 2013, an assault case was lodged at the charge office against the evangelist by his brother, one Joseph Acquah.
The prosecutor said the complainants were detailed to effect Acquah’s arrest, only to arrive at his house to find him fast asleep.
He said after Acquah was arrested, some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found in the couch in which he was sleeping.
According to Inspector Opoku-Mensah, Acquah was escorted to the police station together with the exhibits.
However, the prosecutor said Acquah disowned the exhibits in his caution statement.
