Use 10% Of Waterville’s Judgement Debt To Set Up “Citizen Vigilante Fund”

A member of the Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants government to speedily launch efforts to retrieve the 25million euros illegally paid to Waterville BV Holdings as judgement debt as declared by the Supreme Court last Friday.

Asamoah Gyamfi also wants government to use 10% of the said amount to set up what he describes as the “Citizen Vigilante Fund” to fight corruption.

Speaking on HotFM, he suggested that the former Attorney-General, Martin Amidu, whose doggedness lead to the Supreme Court making those adverse findings against Waterville, be made the head of the proposed committee to help and encourage others do likewise, since to him, few people can have the determination and perseverance to fight against their party and government.

He pointed out the Waterville case which the Supreme Court recently ruled on was as a result of the effort of Mr Amidu to see the right thing being done and not due to the A-G department’s obligation to defend the public purse.

“…this case was in court because Martin Amide selflessness, not by the effort of the A-G….this shows the NDC government is not prepared to fight corruption…even in the case of the judgement debt paid to Alfred Agbesi Woyome, it was Kennedy Agyapong who first took the matter up…the NDC government would have swept the issue under the carpet…,” he asserted.

He charged President Mahama to impress on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to trackdown officials of Waterville and retrieve the state’s funds and to also ensure that measures are put in place to recover every judgement debt wrongfully paid by government.
