The Local Black Stars fought from behind to narrowly defeat crossboarder rivals Ivory Coast 2-1 in an international friendly on Wednesday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

AshGold striker Yakubu Mohammed scored both of Ghana’s goals in a lowly attended game in Kumasi.

Dauda Lutterodt, missing key duo Mahatma Otoo and Rashid Sumaila to the main Black Stars still managed to field a strong side.

Berekum Chelsea midfielder Jordan Opoku, Yahaya Mohammed and Asante Kotoko’s Michael Helegbe were all named in the line-up.

The Ivorians took lead midway through the first half but Yakubu Mohammed equalised for Ghana with a poacher’s goal from inside the box.

After the interval, the Locals who had struggled to stretch their game together took full control of the game dictated pace eventually scoring the match winner.

A second leg of the game is scheduled for Friday at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
