Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has once again being linked with a move to giants Barcelona, the Spanish media has reported.

This comes after the midfielder bursting with energy was earlier this year linked with a move to the Catalan giants which later went cold.

But Spanish media outfit Todomercadoweb Espanyol has reported that the Espanyol player is likely to join Barcelona before the transfer window closes.

According to the report, the Ghanaian is among the players penciled down by Barcelona for them to sign to boost their squad.

Barca vice-president Josep Bartomeu has revealed that the Catalans intend to sign four or five new players in the summer transfer window.

WIth just Neymar signed so far there are four more players to be signed by Barcelona before the season starts.

With Alex Song’s future far from certain at the Nou Camp, speculations that the Spanish club are on the lookout for midfield additions has gone into an overdrive.

The players seen as the right replacement for Song as the Ghana star has been hugely influential for both club and country.

With competition for places far stiffer than at the Emirates Stadium, Song has been restricted to just 11 La Liga starts, three of which have been at centre-back.

Barcelona were said to be plotting a move for Wakaso following his excellent showing for Ghana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and for Espanyol in La Liga.

Although he is regarded as a key first-team player by Espanyol, the Catalan club are reportedly willing to listen to offers in the region of $30m.

Espanyol could force Wakaso to move because they are struggling financially.

The Camp Nou side are keen to add some fresh blood to their squad this summer and intend to hold on to current head coach Tito Vilanova.

Vilanova replaced Pep Guardiola as Barca coach at the start of the 2012-13 campaign and guided them to their best-ever start in La Liga.
