NPP Would Be Disappointed To Think That They Can Win 2012 Elections At The Supreme Court

Takyiman South MP on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Agyei Mensah has cautioned any Ghanaian who know the rules of the electoral process not to be prejudicial about the assessment of the 2012 election petition in the Supreme Court.

He said that the court proceedings have been very successful with the trend with which the case has taken, adding that the issue before the Supreme Court is baseless and has no merit.

Speaking on Okay FM, he said that the allegation before the Supreme Court is welcoming news to the NDC to clarify the issue of theft, as the NPP supporters have branded President Mahama to ascertain the allegation leveled against EC and NDC to unravel the truth thereof in the petition.

He further said that the petitioners have not been able to prove effectively with the issue of voting without verification.

Touching on double serial numbers, the NDC MP said that there were special voting and normal voting at the same polling stations and so it is possible to get the same serial numbers; adding that another issue the petitioners have failed to realize is that some of the polling stations have huge number of voters and so in the wisdom of the EC, the polling stations were divided into two to help every voter to go through the verification on time.

In view of the division of some polling stations, the EC informed NPP to provide polling agents for the divided stations, hence the same serial numbers at different polling stations; stressing that it is not true that additional polling stations were created without the knowledge of the NPP because their polling agents were at these 22 polling stations even though they were not captured in the earlier data.

He however said that the Supreme Court will decide whether the error on the part of the EC officials were deliberate or not; in that with careful assessment of the case before the Supreme Court “NPP will be disappointed to think that they can win the 2012 elections in Supreme Court”.

He again said that Dr. Bawumia’s assertion that every blank space can be equated to over-voting cannot be found in the EC rules and that the Supreme Court will decide on the issue of blank space at the bottom of the ink sheet.

He therefore said that the idea that the unsigned pink sheets should be annulled as the petitioners have suggested before the Supreme Court should not be taken serious; in that apart from the unsigned pink sheets by the EC officials, all the polling agents of the various parties signed.
