Kumbungu by-election underway

Voting is underway in the Kumbungu constituency of the Northern Region.

The seat became vacant following ECOWAS’ endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni as Secretary General of the Africa Carribean Pacific (ACP) group of states.

Three candidates representing the NDC, the CPP and the PPP are contesting today’s by-election.

They are Alhaji Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu of the NDC, Ahmed Mansuru Mohammed, PPP and Amadu Moses Yahaya of the CPP.

According to the Northern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Sylvester Kanyi, voting started at 7am.

He commended the security arrangements on the ground and expected that nothing untoward will happen.
