BENIN — EDO State chapter of Labour Party, LP, yesterday, in Benin, said it was studying reports of its agents across the state on the outcome of the local government elections held on April 20, before communicating its next line of action to members and supporters.
The party, in a statement by its state Chairman, Mr. Sam Omede, urged members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful and go about their normal duties, adding that they should place their hopes in God.
The party said that it was unfortunate that results released in the 17 local government areas of the state by Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, where elections purportedly took place, had been dogged with controversies and outright rejection by the two main opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Labour Party, and called for a revisit of the entire electoral process.
The party, however, congratulated the courage of its members, “who were swayed by the issue-based campaign that was executed effectively across the state. We are grateful to you for the unprecedented support, earned strictly on the basis of what we stood for, without financial or material inducement.
“We regret the needless waste of time, energy, resources and more significantly, the inability of most of you to cast your votes due to sundry manipulative innovations by those in positions of authority. You are the heroes of democracy.”
