Man Commits Suicide Near Police Headquarters

A man believed to be in his 40’s has committed suicide by hanging himself on a mango tree near the West Gonja District Police Headquarters in Damongo in the Northern region.

The body of the man who has only been identified as Abu has been taking to the regional Capital Tamale to be deposited at the regional Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

According to his neighbors, the deceased on Friday, April 26 2013, attempted committing suicide by locking himself in his room and setting the room ablaze but due to the timely intervention of his neighbors, he was rescued and they realize that he has even dug his own grave in the middle of the room.

A neighbor who spoke on anonymity said “the deceased use to be the bread winner of the family. He was a hard working farmer, but seriously we don’t know what came over him when he suddenly traveled to Nigeria and upon his return, things have not been alright with him and until Saturday, he decided to end his journey on earth”.

The deceased is suspected to have gone to the scene of the crime late in the night because a lamp was spotted under the mango tree he committed the act.

Police personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who removed the body of the deceased stated that they suspect no foul play over the incident.

The incident which happened early Saturday morning has created a state of panic among residents of the area and are calling on the police to be vigilant during late hours.
