Agona East Impasse: Youth Caution Chiefs – Cease Fire In Order To Ease Tension

The Agona Youth Association has called on the chiefs and opinion leaders of the area who are wading into the misunderstanding between the Member of Parliament (MP), Maame Pokua Sawyerr and Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi, the Interior Minister, to cease fire in order to ease the tension in the Agona-East District Assembly.

Though the group did not want to get into the causes of the impasse between the two big wigs of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), they sent a message to the chiefs of the area who have pitched camps with either of the disputing parties to desist from commenting on the issue.

The Association on Adom FM,further pleaded with the Chiefs of the area to expedite action to bring the two together in order for them to smoke the peace pipe.

The statement of the Agonaman Youth Association come on heels of accusations by the MP for Agona East who doubles as the Deputy Minister for the Central Region, Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr that the Minister for the Interior, Kwesi Ahwoi has hoarded relief items meant for persons displaced by rainstorm in the Agona East district.

Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr claimed Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi has deliberately refused to release relief items meant for the victims and resorted to distributing them at his will.

The Deputy Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Agona East, further accused the Interior Minister of working against her, following her victory in the parliamentary primary in the constituency, which Mr. Ahwoi also contested but lost.

Madam Pokua Sawyerr went ahead to win the seat in the 2012 elections on the ticket of National Democratic Congress. She alleged, Mr. Ahwoi has been mobilizing the youth in the area to attack some persons who are in support of her.

The over 900 victims of the rainstorm which hit the district, are yet to receive relief items almost two weeks after the disaster. Roofs of several houses were ripped off and other school buildings destroyed.
