Ghana midfielder Michael Essien returned from injury by playing in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win at cross-town rivals, Atletico.
The on-loan Chelsea player has been out for the past three weeks with a muscle problem.
Essien lasted 70 minutes before being substituted by Rafael Varane in the game played at the Estadio Vicente Calderon on Saturday night.
His timely return comes in handy ahead of Real’s crucial return leg of their Champions League semi final tie against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
The Spanish champions must overturn a 4-1 deficit to book a place in May’s final at Wembley.
