Agona East Assembly suspends election of PM

Nsaba (C/R), April 27, GNA – Members of the Agona East District Assembly were on Friday disappointed when a meeting they were summoned to elect a Presiding Member could not take place.

This was a result of a letter written by Mr Oscar Mensah, Agona East Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress dated on 24th April, to revoke the appointment of the two government appointees.

The two members were Nana Obiriboah Krampah and Mr Francis Baidu representatives of Nyakrom Traditional Council and National Democratic Congress respectively.

Mr Samuel Richard Zigah, Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, whose two-year term has expired and is seeking re-election, said the termination of two government appointee members were wrong.

The PM said that the District Assembly concept is purely non-partisan and nobody can revoke appointment except the President as stated in ACT 462.

He said ACT 462 stipulated that the President of the Republic has the sole power to appoint and revoke appointees of the District Assembly.

Mr Zigah said the letters were addressed to the Central Regional Coordinating Director instead of his office as required by law and that the matter has been referred to the Public Relations and Complains Sub-committee of the Assembly.

The PM said the Committee would submit its report in two weeks time for Assembly to discuss and that a new date would be fixed to elect new PM. GNA
