Ghana forward Andre Ayew was sent off with his brother, Jordan also getting booked in Olympique Marseille’s hard-fought 1-0 win at Lorient a Ligue 1 game on Saturday.
Andre was shown a straight red card alongside Lorient goalkeeper Fabien Audard after the duo engaged each other in a scuffle as temper flared at the blast of the final whistle.
Ayew’s sending off represents his first of the season with his younger brother; Jordan also getting booked in added on time as the game got even more heated.
Mathieu Valbuana had put Marseille in the lead which subsequently emerged the match winner on 25 minutes at Stade du Moustoir to extend his side’s unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to eight matches.
The win moved Elie Baup’s side to within six points of leaders PSG, who are away to relegation-threatened Evian on Sunday, with four games remaining and gave them a five-point advantage over third-placed Lyon, who host Rhone derby foes Saint-Etienne, in the race for the final automatic Champions League qualification spot.
Defeat for Lorient however saw the Brittany club remain seventh, leaving success in the French Cup as their only realistic hope of playing in Europe next term.
