It has long been her dream to be remembered as a committed Christian who helped spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through music and that wish has become a reality with the coming out of Afia Serwaa’s debut album appropriately titled Remembrance.
Released on the Last Stop Production label, the eight songs on the album were recorded and mixed by Nacy. Most of the songs are straight well-produced highlife of different tempos and Afia Serwaa convincingly sings out her faith.
Unlike other contemporary gospel singers who sound like straining their voices and even shouting through the to impress listeners, Afia Serwaa sounds cool and collected as she runs through tracks like Bisa, Boafo, Emere, Shebre Sesafo and Gyi Yesu Di.
Her singing is generally good, doing justice to the fact that she started singing more than 15 years ago with a group based in Accra known as The Divine Singers. She seems to have known the vocal range that suits her and she floats effortlessly within that latitude.
It may take her a bit of time to get known all over the place but she definitely has something in her voice which attracts and can help her go far. The video of Bisa is already running on eTV, Metro TV, Top TV and Crystal TV.
The Remembrance album will be launched on Saturday, May 4 at the North Kaneshie Christ Apostolic Church in Accra. Guest performer at the launch is Supt. Kofi Sarpong.
