Eleven women suspected to be prostitutes were yesterday grabbed together with about 29 men at a brothel near Abeka Lapaz after Tesano Police conducted a swoop to rid the area of suspected criminals.
The suspects were arrested in an operation led by the District Commander, Chief Superintendent Lydia Yaako Donkor and ASP George Asare, the District Crime Officer respectively.
Briefing the media, Chief Superintendent Francis Aboagye Nyarko, the Tesano Divisional Police Commander said the suspects were arrested within Achimota Charcoal Station Popularly Called Las Vegas, Christian Village, Abeka Lapaz and Akweteyman, Wednesday morning around 5:00am.
He noted that some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found on some of the suspects after a search by the police.
Ten of the women were arrested in a brothel near Abeka Lapaz practicing prostitution, while one woman who was arrested at Achimota Charcoal Station area was also seen selling some wrappers of the dried leaves to customers.
A motorbike was also impounded, as the supposed owner could not provide its documents.
The suspects, numbering 40, were between the ages of 24 and 50.
The swoop was part of police operations to rid the area of criminal activities.
Two months ago, the Tesano Police conducted two operations and arrested some suspected criminals in the area.
After screening, 15 of the suspects were put before court where some were convicted to sentences ranging from six months to two years.
Chief Superintendent Aboagye Nyarko said the 40 suspects arrested would be screened and those found culpable would be put before court.
