Truck crushes motor boy in Kwara

Omu-Aran (Kwara) – Tragedy struck on Wednesday  on the Ilofa-Omu-Aran highway as a  motor boy, Omoniyi Morakinyo, was crushed to death by a truck being driven by his boss, Gbenga Oloja, in a lone auto-accident.

The unregistered truck was on its  way to Ilorin from Kabba, Kogi, when the incident happened.

The accident happened some few metres to the gate of the Federal Government Girls College, Omu-Aran, where two police recruits were burnt to death in January.

Oloja and the motor boy were said to have taken a nap under the truck in the hope of  continuing the journey to Ilorin after a short rest.

An eye witness told reporters that  Oloja, however, drove off  with the truck not knowing that Morakinyo was still under the truck, crushing him to death in the process.

Oloja, who was detained by the police in Omu-Aran,  was said to have reported himself after the incident.

The vehicle had been taken to the Divisional Police Command where the Divisional Police Officer, Mr Rasaq Adebayo, confirmed the incident, saying  the body of the deceased was removed immediately and taken to the General Hospital, Omu-Aran,  for autopsy.

He said the body of the deceased, who hailed  from Ipoti in Ekiti state,  would soon be released to the family for burial.

Adebayo said though the driver had told his own story to the police, the result of the autopsy would  determine the actual cause of  death.

He said the case would be transferred to the state headquarters in Ilorin for further investigation. (NAN)
