Police administration to sanction alleged fuel-stealing officers if found culpable

Some Police Officers on Friday April 19th, were alleged to have joined local residents at Ejisu in the Ashanti region to scramble for free fuel from an overturned tanker.

The Police Administration have said it will sanction officers found culpable in the alleged siphoning of fuel last week from an accident fuel tanker in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

Radioxyzonline reported that Some Police Officers on Friday April 19th, joined a “horde of local residents at Ejisu in the Ashanti region to scramble for free fuel” flowing out from an overturned tanker.

The report also said that Police Officers arrived at the scene in Police pickup trucks with jerry cans and gallons and joined the crowd in siphoning their share of the spilt fuel.

The Officers, according the news report, “drove off with their booty without making any attempts to stop the residents from going near the fallen tanker which could have exploded”

But the Police administration have told Joy News investigation into the allegations has begun.

Police Director of Public Affairs, DSP Cephas Arthur, told Joy News the administration will not condone indiscipline in the service.

He said depending on the level of the culpability of the officers, they could face “dismissal, removal or reduction or whatever; it is quite a serious offence for a police man to be involved in such an act”.
