NSCDC arrests 2 railway vandals in Ogun

Abeokuta – The Ogun Command of  the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday said  it had arrested two persons for vandalism.

The spokesman of the command, Mr Kareem Olanrewaju, told newsmen in Abeokuta that the suspects, Popoola Sunday (30) and Dele Taiwo (25), vandalised a  railway chains located at Igbore village.

He said the suspects were caught removing the railway chains that were used to tighten the rail to allow for  firm grip.

While disclosing that the arrest was made by officers on patrol,  Olanrewaju said  the act was capable of derailing trains and lead to loss of lives.

He said the command had commenced a thorough investigation to unravel the reasons behind their action.

“Rail vandalism is not common in this part, so, there must be a motivating factor behind this act of vandalism.

“ The corps will look into the case from all possible angles. Thick rail chains and other tools used in the act were recovered from them.

“The corps is calling on members of the public,  especially those whose villages are located around rail lines,  to be observant and give information whenever they observe suspected movement around rail lines.

“This will help us to respond adequately and apprehend anyone who wants to  cause  derailment of trains in the area,’’ he said.  (NAN)
