Man, 40, jailed 6 months over fake number plates

ABEOKUTA — An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, yesterday, sentenced one Raifu Olatiloye, 40, to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for producing and possessing 20 fake number plates.

The accused was said to have been arrested by law enforcement arm of  the state Internal  Revenue Service, IRS, last August in Sagamu after a motorcycle rider who claimed to have bought a  fake number plates from him was arrested.

The accused was charged to court by operatives of IRS for being  in possession of 20 different number plates  which he manufactured illegally, the offence the operatives said contravened  sections 465 and 467 of the State Criminal Code law 2006.

Delivering her judgment, Magistrate Victoria  Williams said she found Olatiloye guilty of the charge and subsequently  sentenced him to six months imprisonment without an option of fine, having pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.

Reacting to the judgment, Chairman of the state Internal Revenue Service, Babajide Odubanjo, described it as a welcome development and a plus for his advocacy against forgery and faking of revenue documents and number plates.
