Day 6 of the hearing of the election petition which is contesting the declaration of President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the December 2012 presidential polls is underway at the Supreme Court in Accra.

Counsel for President John Mahama, Mr Tony Lithur is continuing with his cross examination of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the star witness of the petitioners who is also the second petitioner.

The court has expressed worry over the slow pace of proceedings of the cross examination which entered the fourth day Wednesday, after counsel for the witness had led him through his evidence in chief on two days – Wednesday and Thursday.

Members of the panel on Tuesday drew counsel’s attention to the slow pace and intimated that although some progress seemed to have been made, there was a way in which the case could proceed faster.

But Mr Lithur has resolutely defended his line of cross-examination.

According to him, the nature of the case demanded that he adopt the style being used to test the credibility of the star witness for the petitioners.
