Asante Kotoko beat Tema Youth 1-0 on Wednesday to cut Medeama’s lead at the summit of the Ghana Premier League to just one point.
A 36th minute goal by striker Nafiu Iddrisu handed the champions the vital three points at the Baba Yara Stadium against the Harbour Boys who are fighting relegation.
The win sees Kotoko back on winning ways after last week’s 1-1 at New Edubiase but more importantly, closes the gap on leaders Medeama with seven games left.
The win also hands the Porcupine Warriors a massive boost ahead of their next league match against rivals Hearts of Oak in Accra on May 5.
Mas-Ud Dramani’s side are in action on Sunday when they host second-tier side Eleven Wise in the quarter-final clash of the MTN Ghana FA Cup.
Tema Youth are third from bottom and five points away from safety.
