Groups advocates tax exemption for parents of special needs children

Divinely inspired victoriously anointed sisters, a network of purposeful professional and business women has called on the National Assembly to a law that will exempt parents of special needs children from paying taxes.

Speaking at the third WOW DIVAS autism seminar,  Ifueko Karibi whyte, coordinator of the initiative, noted that “Caring for a child with ASD is extremely expensive and can be a life time of continuous expenses for medicals and education.

“Since Nigerian government cannot subsidies these costs, we humbly request that our law makers to sponsor a bill that will exempt parents of special needs children from paying taxes”.

According to her, savings from taxes will go a long way in accommodating the expenses of a child with ASD, while calling on the Executive arm of government to resend the proposed disability law to the legislature.

“Signing of this bill into law signifies the first step in giving dignity to all persons living with disabilities” she explained.

The event, according to the organizers, was initiated to creating awareness and celebrate families with persons living with autism. “We want people with autism and their families to know that we care about them and we want to encourage them for their efforts.”

Speakers at the event were Dr. Abiodun Eke Aluko, Director Premier Specialist Hospital, Lagos; Ifeyinwa Yvnne Osime, Director, Smartbase Therapy Services; Mr Okey Martins Nwokolo, Director Autism Associates; Mrs. Lola Aneke, educationist N. Carolina USA, and Udo Okonjo CEO Fine and Country.
