K.B. Asante, an ex-minister is pleading with the government to tell all Ghanaians whether or not the state has the funds to pay the arrears of the various striking labour unions.

According to K.B. Asante, the strikes and rumours of the strike are symptoms of a dangerous malaise which threatens economic progress and national stability.

“The authorities should come out clearly and try to persuade all those who are involved to agree to that which is possible,” Mr. Asante reiterates.

“In the first place, when we agreed on this simple single spine salary structure, those who proposed and negotiated it, did they think of the ability of government to pay it?”.

According to him, any arrangement reached with the doctors and teachers should be implemented.

Mr. K.B. Asante told XYZ News that if the agreements cannot be implemented because of lack of funds, then those responsible for instructing the negotiators have a case to answer.
