Bechem United Suspend Player For Kicking Referee But Want Bofoakwa Punished

Ghanaian second-tier side Bechem United have suspended defender Richard Baffour indefinitely and fined him 500 Ghana cedis for kicking a referee during a league match last Sunday.

The incident happened at the Sunyani Coronation Park during a Zone 1B Division One league match against Bofokawa Tano.

Baffour angrily reacted to  referee Richard Dziany’s decision to award a penalty to Bofoakwa in the early minutes of the second half by kicking him.

Fans Bofoakwa Tano took the law into their own hands and physically assaulted players of Bechem United in retaliation.

Seven players were admitted at the Bechem Government Hospital and others have been referred to specialist hospitals.

Bechem United have since apologized to the referee unreservedly.

The club want the Ghana Football Association to take action Bofoakwa Tano fans for causing an abrupt end of the match which violates Article 34 (Id) of the rules and regulations.

The match was called off at 0-0 so the Division One League Board is expected to react to the incident in the coming days.
