Bank Of America Merrill Lynch Introduces Internship Programme

Bank of America Merrill Lynch, has for the first time, initiated a recruitment drive for students in Ghana and Nigeria to undertake an internship programme with them.

Eligible students are expected to undergo an internship programme with the bank to prepare them for the global financial market.

On Tuesday, at a programme dubbed “Global Growth Development Talent in Africa”, over 700 students from four universities namely; University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Cape Coast University (CCU) and Ashesi University (AU), were invited to apply for the programme with some 250 being shortlisted for competitive interview session.

They met with senior business representatives and some eminent personalities including Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, Managing Partner, Oxford, Oxford & Beaumont Solicitors; Patrick Awua Jr.-Co-Founder, Ashesi University; Edward Effah CEO, Fidelity; Matt Sharratt, Vice President, Research, Bank of America Merrill Lynch; who expatiated to the students some of the key global issues on education, investments, career opportunities, processes in applying for a job and other opportunities the bank has on offer for talented graduates.

Mr Bernard Mensah, Global Head of Emerging Markets (ex-Asia) Global Markets and Head of EMEA Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities Trading, in an interview was of the firm belief that the opportunity will offer the students insight into any subject of their choice.

He was however quick to add that the programme is not only for final year students of the universities but also opened to first, second and third year students no matter the course being studied.

“…this initiative demonstrates our company’s commitment to growing a truly international business and building its strength in emerging markets,” he added.

According to him, graduates after the internship programme, will gain knowledge and experience as well as be positioned for great career opportunities.

He gave the assurance that students who get the opportunity to become interns will be offered financial support for travel and accommodation, as well as support to secure the appropriate visa required.

“Students will also be strictly monitored to avoid unnecessary movements and to ensure that the purpose for the studies is achieved,” he stressed.
