Defender Rashid Sumaila will leave Asante Kotoko at the end of the season to join Mamelodi Sundowns.

This follows the confirmation that the 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the South African top flight side following successful trials two months ago.

Sumaila’s departure will however fetch Kotoko absolutely nothing as they do not hold the economic rights of the central defender.

The Ghana international is only with the Ghanaian champions on a season’s-long loan deal from Ebusua Dwarfs.

He only joined Kotoko at the beginning of the season to help them in their failed bid in the CAF Champions League.

He is therefore to revert to Dwarfs when his loan deal expires with all proceeds of an onward transfer going to the Cape Coast-based club.

Sumaila becomes the second confirmed signing for Sundowns as they have already acquired the services of Belgian goalkeeper Glenn Verbauwhede.
