Koforidua jams with VGMA nominees

Music lovers from Koforidua and its environs were out in force at the Jackson Park last Saturday and thrilled with the performances of various star artists at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2013 Nominees Jam.

The event, described by many fans as unprecedented in the town, electrified the Koforidua township as the expectant crowd relished gospel, hiphop, hiplife, highlife and R & B songs that many sang along loudly.

Almost everyone at  the concert  described as successful as the enthusiasm of the crowd was sustained throughout the five hour programme, which started from 9 p.m till 2p.m.

The elated crowd was treated to some of the best songs, nominated for the 2013 VGMA, by stars such as VIP, Kwaw Kesse, Cwesi Oteng, Eazzy, R2Bees, Kris Wagon, EL, Shaka Walley, Keche, D Money, Black Prophet, Bandana, C. J. D. Owusu and the Patch Bay Band.

With Nii Ayie Tagoa of Joy FM as the DJ, the thrilling evening concert was jointly co-emceed by Funny Face and George Quaye with Black Boy of GHOne conducting star red carpet interviews.

The concert, also enabled some of the Koforidua-based musicians such as AQ, Nipanua Ghanaman, Danso Appiah, to prove their mettle on the big platform.

There were single performances from gospel artists like Cwesi Oteng and C. J. D. Owusu who sang some of their latest tracks that electrified the atmosphere with fans singing along with them.

The concert offered the fans a live opportunity to text and vote for their favourite artists nominated in various categories for the 14th edition of the VGMA categorieswhich comes off at the Accra International Conference Centre on May 18.

A number of the elated fans Showbiz spoke with after the show described the concert as “unprecedented” and the finest to best organized in Koforidua in recent times.

“If you looked around, you could see that the fans had lots of fun throughout the concert”, Coca Willson, a student of the Koforidua Polytechnic stated. “I cannot wait for a similar event to be organized again in Koforidua. I danced with the guys throughout”, he added.

Another fan, Mr Anthony Amoh also considered the VGA concert as one of the finest he had ever witnessed in Koforidua. “Hey, I could not resist the great performances of artists like Cwesi Oteng, Kwaw Kesse and R2Bees”, he stressed and wished for similar event in the near future.

“Unlike many musical entertainment put up in Koforidua in recent times, it is the first time I have seen the crowd only leaving the concert at the end of the event”, Ms Afua Annan, a worker, stated.

“Rarely do you see people staying late through a programme and that should tell you how much the people have been entertained”, she added.

According to the organizers of the event, the concert was aimed at bringing the various stars nominated for the 14th edition of the VGMA, it was also meant to allow the public vote for stars for various awards categories.

“We are offering the public an opportunity to vote for artists for all categories as it is through such voting that we can determine who emerges the best for any of the awards category”, Nii Ayite Hammond, a Production Director of GH-One TV, stated.
