Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh Lambussie (U/W) April 19, GNA- Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister has commended Lambussie/Karni District Assembly for achieving 79 per cent of its revenue target for 2012.

He noted that the assembly earmarked GH¢ 94,878.00 for collection out of which GH¢ 75,173.02 was netted.

Dr Nsoh gave the commendation at the first ordinary meeting of the District Assembly at Lambussie.

He urged the Assembly to be more innovative this year in revenue mobilisation in order to exceed their target.

He said area would benefit from a dam to be constructed at Suke at an estimated cost of GH¢199,901.11 under the Ghana Social Opportunities Project.

Dr Nsoh urged the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and other stakeholders to facilitate the take off the project.

He expressed worry about the massive failure of candidates of Basic Education Certificate Examination in the District last year, which was pegged at 74.5 per cent.

Mr Clement Benin, District Chief Executive, noted that though the Assembly was able to collect sufficient revenue last year the there is the need to step up the performance this year.

He said the general poverty level of the District coupled with lack of reliable data on ratable items, properties and businesses are some of the problems associated with low revenue mobilisation.

Mr Benin said the Assembly in pursuit of its development objectives for the year intends to develop basic economic, social and administrative infrastructures and services.

Mr Issaka Sagito was re-elected as the Presiding Member of the Assembly, after polling 31 votes from the 33 members.
