GLO PREMIER LEAGUE WRAP: WEEK 22





Coach Bashir Hayford’s first return to Tarkwa since his January move to AshantiGold did not work according to plan as he left the grounds on the losing side.

The Miners lost 1-0 to Medeama on Sunday in the Glo Premier League as Hayford made an emotional return to his former club.

A 19th minute goal by Samuel Enzemaba made the difference as the Mauves claimed all three points to re-establish themselves at the top of the

table.
The win gives Medeama a three-point lead at the summit after close contenders Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko both drew away from home.

With eight matches to go, the coming weeks will prove crucial in the title race as Medeama chase their first domestic title.

A late goal at the Accra Sports Stadium handed Hearts of Oak all three points in their meeting with Amidaus Professionals on Sunday.

The Phobians won the fixture 1-0 to move up to 11th on the Glo Premier League standings.

Thomas Abbey’s 86th minute goal made the difference as the David Duncan’s side as they attempt to climb up the table before their clash with big rivals, Asante Kotoko.

Hearts will play Liberty Professionals in the Accra derby in midweek before the Kotoko match over the weekend.

Aduana Stars’ title challenge and top-four hopes suffered another setback on Sunday after they lost 2-1 to King Faisal in Kumasi.

The Dormaa side have lost their last three matches in the competition which has seen them drop from third place to sixth on the log.

Farouk Mohammed opened the scoring for Faisal after ten minutes but thirty minutes later, Alex Asamoah drew the visitors level.

Both sides finished the opening half one goal apiece.

On resumption of the second half, it took Faisal some 25 minutes before getting a sight of goal as they were awarded a penalty which was converted by George Akowuah to hand them all three points.

Aduana are now 10 points off the summit and three points adrift the fourth-placed team from the top.

In other games, Tema Youth came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Liberty Professionals at the Tema Park.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Arsenals and Heart of Lions played out a goalless draw match.

Asante Kotoko’s are still chasing their first ever league win at the Gyamfi Park after drawing 1-1 with New Edubiase on Sunday in the Glo Premier League.

The point earned however left the reigning champions four points adrift the top after Medeama won at home.

David Ofei gave the Porcupine Warriors the lead after 42 minutes when he slotted past Iddrisu Salia.

But Eugene Amoah drew the home side level in the second half with 13 minutes remaining on the clock.

Another title contender, Berekum Chelsea dropped two vital points as their push for the summit suffered in Wa where they drew 1-1 with Wa All Stars.

Chelsea were one point behind the leaders going into the game in Wa but they are now three point adrift the top.

Ebusua Dwarfs heaped more misery on Real Tamale United after thrashing the bottom side, 6-1 on Sunday in Cape Coast.

There were six different scorers at the Robert Mensah Stadium as the win puts Dwarfs in fourth.

John Arthur, Francis Atuquaye, Bright Lukman, Ricky Adjei Mensah, Asiwone Fumador and Francis Morten all scored for Dwarfs as Evans Odoom grabbed a consolation for the basement boys.

The defeat was RTU’s 17th in 22 matches this season as they have now conceded 45 goals and have only five points to their credit.
