Ken Kuranchie Dec2010

Editor in Chief of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper has expressed misgivings about some decisions so far taken by the Supreme Court Justices sitting on the ongoing election petition case.

He raised eyebrows on the rejection of the power point presentation requested by the petitioners.

He also stated that the Supreme Court Justices decision not to allow Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia refresh his mind with exhibits of the affidavits provided on a CD Rom was wrong.

During cross examination at the last sitting by lead Counsel for President John Mahama’s legal team, Lawyer Tony Lithur put it to Dr. Bawumia that there were so many duplicates of the affidavits filed by the three petitioners challenging the legitimacy of President Mahama’s Presidency.

But Dr. Bawumia insisted that such mistakes were not repeated on the updated CD Rom which he needed to use as reference point.

In support of Dr. Bawumia’s stand, Ken Kuranchie reiterated the relevance of giving the chief petitioner the chance when the need arises during cross examination.

Advancing his point, Ken Kuranchie said giving Dr. Bawumia such opportunity will enable him set the records straight at the next court sitting.

He further argued that as a human being, Dr. Bawumia could not recall off the top of his head all the voluminous exhibits presented in court as affidavits.

“We are in court for facts and this is a gentleman who has conducted an investigation and then put the data into a certain format; so I think the Court ought to assist him to present the facts as known to him in the best possible format.”

He however commended the Chief Justice Theodora Wood for broadcasting the sittings live.
