In a multi-party democracy, the role of a General Secretary cannot be under-estimated. Dr Kwame Nkrumah Ghana’s first president showed just how powerful and important the role of a General Secretary is to a political party.
He rode on the wings of the General Secretary position for the UGCC to be leader of the CPP and later became the first president of Ghana. That was the fist republic.
Fast forward to the 4th Republic is a new set of General Secretaries in Ghana’s multiparty democracy.
Without doubt the two most popular General Secretaries are Johnson Asiedu Nketiah of the NDC and Kwodwo Owusu Afriyie of the NPP.
