Ghana defender Harrison Afful was in action for Esperance when they drew goalless away to JSM Bejaia in the CAF Champions League game played on Saturday.

The Algerian side were unable to breakdown their resilient guests before an expectant home crowd to get the edge ahead of the second leg clash in a fortnight.

Bejaia could however count themselves unlucky as they wasted the few glaring chances that came their way.

Afful’s Tunisian club thus gain the relative advantage over the Algerians who were responsible for the elimination of Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko from the competition ahead of the second leg clash.

Esperance will however be wary of Bejaia’s threat away from home as they secured a similar scoreline in the first leg game in the last round against Kotoko but managed to progress on the away-goal’s-rule after grinding out a 1-1 draw in the second leg game to kick out the Porcupine Warriors.
