17 killed in Plateau attacks in one week – STF

The special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in Plateau State has confirmed  the killing of 17 people in different attacks in Riyom and Local Government Areas within the past one week.

Media Officer of the STF, Captain Salisu Mustapha who confirmed the killings in a statement on Friday said  25 cows were either rustled or killed in the affected areas.

STF was deployed to restore law and order in plateau where over seventeen persons were killed in Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGA of plateau state this week alone.

It listed the affected villages  as Tan Jol , Gilgrare , Dan , Gero, Gyal, Rim, Joil and Tashek adding that the first attack took place on Sunday when unknown gunmen ambushed and attacked cows in Riyom LGA at about 1.30pm killing six and injuring three.

According to the statement,  another attack took place on  Monday at about 11 30 pm at Dakum village in Riyom LGA where eight people were killed and one person was injured.

Similarly, seven people were killed and several houses torched at Tanjol, Rim And Gilgare during which 19 cows were killed and six injured.

It said the situation had been brought under control and that the Commander of the STF, Major General Henry Ayoola  and the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone Four have visited the areas to assess the situation.

The statement added that  men of the STF are patrolling the area to forestall further attack on innocent people and assured that no efforts would be spared to fish out those behind the attacks.
