James Gunu gets unanimous confirmation as Akatsi-North DCE




Dakpa, April 19, GNA – Mr James Gunu, 40, a Corporate Governance Professional, on Friday polled all 20 votes to be confirmed as District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Akatsi-North District Assembly.

The Akatsi-North District was carved out of the Akatsi District, which is now known as Akatsi-South District.

Mr Gunu, who also has a journalism qualification, started mainstream politics in the Effia Constituency of the Western Region, where he became National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Treasurer.

He was also one time President of the Volta Region Student’s Association, Patron of the EP University wing of the Tertiary Education Network (TEIN) of the NDC.

Mr Gunu in an acceptance speech pledged to lay the foundation that would spur the new district on to greater heights.

‘I require your commitment and cooperation in order to lay a firm foundation based on good vision that will be anchored on promoting quality education, rapid infrastructural development, quality health care, agriculture, eco-tourism and above all social justice,’ he stated.

Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Volta Regional Minister observed that it was the DCE who leads in the effective mobilization, creative exploitation and the utilization of the available human, financial and material resources in the local environment.

He called for accelerated work in development in all areas to meet the expectations of the people who appeared to be growing increasingly impatient.

‘Let us begin to do things differently, lest we stand the misfortune of losing the trust that the good people of Ghana have placed in us,’ Nii Afotey-Agbo stated.

He said the issue of sanitation, leakage of funds and revenue mobilization were key areas that the Assemblies should be looking at.

Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, Speaker of Parliament in a message delivered through, Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi-North, urged Mr Gunu to be diligent and respectful in dealing with all manner of people, to merit the confidence reposed in him.

Mr Nortsu-Kotoe described Mr Adjaho, who had been MP for Ave-Avenor, (Akatsi), for five consecutive terms since 1992, as ‘father of the twins,’ the Akatsi-South District and Akatsi-North District.

Mr Patrick Kwame Ahiabu Presiding Member of the Akatsi-North Assembly said the unanimity of the approval of Mr Gunu was a signal that there would be cooperation among all stakeholders to push the development agenda of the district forward.

Mr Anthony Tabiri Abrebrese, District Magistrate Ketu-North swore in Mr Gunu.

Among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony were Togbe Bina Lawluvi, VI, Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State and Mr Mahmud Ali, Presiding Member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly chiefs, heads of government departments and DCEs from adjoining districts.   GNA
