Samuel Awuku, a Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is convinced Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will defy any threat of intimidation from lawyers of the respondents in the going Election Petition hearing before the Supreme Court.

He stated that Dr. Bawumia who is a key witness of the petitioners challenging the 2012 presidential election results has the right mental attitude to flaw the antics adopted by lawyers of the respondents to frustrate him in court.

He was reacting to comments by the NDC that Tony Lithur, Lead Counsel for the president, who is the first respondent in the Election Petition succeeded in cowing Dr. Bawumia into submission.

Lawyer Tony Lithur accused Dr.Bawumia of deceiving the court by using duplicated pink sheets in their analysis of results from polling stations they claim suffered gross irregularity, an allegation he [Bawumia] has vehemently denied.

In addition, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Ato Dadzie urged Dr. Bawumia to prepare for “fire” on Monday April 22 when cross examination of the Election Petition before the Supreme Court continues.

Nana Ato Dadzie is quoted to have said lawyers of the respondents will punch holes in the testimonies of Dr. Bawumia to discredit all the allegations made by the petitioners.

But Sammy Awuku on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday urged lawyers of the respondents to do their home work well before coming to court on Monday.

According to him, no amount of rough tactics adopted by lawyers of the respondents will quench their desire to expose the irregularities in the December 7 polls.

“The best thing that has happened to the petitioners is having Bawumia as a witness the NDC lawyers must not take him for granted” he added.

Sammy Awuku noted that Dr. Bawumia is firm, truthful, factual and intellectually determined to unravel the electoral malpractices which marred last year’s December 7 polls.

“He [Bawumia] is a stubborn witness; he has the courage, tenacity and wisdom to face-off with the lawyers of the respondents. They [NDC lawyers] should brace themselves for a showdown” he opined.

Sammy Awuku said members of the NPP are not bothered by the ‘comical gymnastics’ of lawyers of the respondents because Dr. Bawumia will leave no stone unturned to unravel the mystery behind the election fraud.
