Ace sports journalist and member of the governing National Democratic Congress’s communication team, Nana Agyemang has called on the National Security outfit to immediately arrest the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong for allegedly inciting his party’s youth to mayhem.
Mr Agyapong is alleged by the Daily Post Newspaper to have incited the youth to fatal violence on the streets by asking them to pour out in mayhem and sacrifice their blood, if need be, in their pursuit for justice as far as the main opposition New Patriotic Party’s quest to overturn the 2012 presidential election results was concerned.
“You the youth must defend yourself. Go out onto the streets and demonstrate”, the paper quoted the Lawmaker as having said on his madina-based TV station NET2 on Tuesday April 16, 2013 in Accra.
He is also quoted to have incited them thus: “Look the easiest death is for you the youth to go out there and die”.
The party’s 2012 Presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akuof Addo, his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the National Chairman Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey are currently in court seeking to invalidate the results of the presidential election.
The three Petitioners argue that the governing NDC colluded with the Electoral Commission to manipulate the election results in favour of President John Mahama.
The substantive hearing of the matter at the Supreme Court started on Tuesday April 16, 2013.
However, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, according to the Newspaper is said to be baying for blood on the streets toward achieving the objective of the Petitioners, for which the three politicians have resorted to the Supreme Court.
Nana Kweku Agyemang therefore believes that the office of National Security must immediately arrest the Lawmaker for questioning.
Mr Agyemang told Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Programme on Friday April 19, 2013 that: “What the Member of Parliament said amounts to insurgency and a call for anarchy, in view of what he said in the past which is still in court; it is necessary that he is quickly invited and questioned over such remarks”.
However, co-discussant Nana Akomea, who is the Director of communications of the NPP, disagreed.
He said Mr Kennedy Agyapong often meant no harm when he speaks adding that Ghanaians are now used to the Assin Central MPs’ style of speaking.
