Siblings Die After Torrential Rains

Two sibling are dead in Asuoyeboah, a suburb of Kumasi, after torrential rains hit the capital on Wednesday evening.

The siblings have been identified as Maa Adwoa and Maa Akua.

According to Citi News correspondent Betty Ohemaa Agyeman in Kumasi, the boundary of the wall of the house collapsed, resulting in severe flooding with water levels reaching about four feet.

The area, which was already water-logged, compelled them to stand on tall tables and some climbed to the ceilings.

The mother of the three children, 26-year-old Abena Pokua, had carried the two-year-old Maa Akua on her back.

While trying to save the two from drowning, the one on her back fell off and Pokua lost control of eight-year-old Maa Adwoa.

The body of the eight-year-old was found this morning while the other is believed to have been carried away by the flood.

This brings to five the number of people who have lost their lives as a result of heavy downpours in Kumasi within the last three days.

The body of Maa Adwoa has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue, while the body of Maa Akua has yet to be found.
