The Registrar General’s Department on Wednesday, produced copies of files on 10 companies out of the 17 companies that it was requested to make available to the Commission on Judgement Debt.
The Commission has therefore given the Department two weeks to furnish it with documents on the remaining seven companies for study.
Mrs Helen Akpene Ziwu, Principal State Attorney at the Registrar General’s Department who presented the documents, mentioned the companies whose documents were provided to the Commission as Frandesco West Africa Limited, Margins ID Systems, Margins Supplies Company and Martin Stephen Shipping Company.
Others are International Tobacco Ghana Limited, N.D.K. Financial Service Limited, Delta Food Limited, Sweater and Socks Factory Limited, Mahogany Furniture Company Limited and Rona Construction Limited.
Mrs Ziwu however said the Department is still shoveling through its archives to find documents on Meridian Tobacco Ghana Limited, Margins Group Limited, Novotec Limited, Wonda Properties Limited, Modern Construction Company Limited, C.M.P. West Africa Limited and Calf Cocoa International Limited.
She explained that the restructuring exercise going on at the Department was making it difficult to trace the documents but gave the assurance that it would provide the required documents to the Commission at the appropriate time.
Mahogany Furniture Company Limited provided documents in respect of judgment debts of GH¢4.7 million paid to the Company in 2009.
Samir Masir, Managing Director of the Company presented some of the documents to the Commission and was asked to produce the remaining documents in two weeks.
He was also asked to provide documents in relationship to a court case the Company was pursuing in Sekondi to the Commission for study.
Seth Atsu Siameh, a representative of Torgbi Bormorde Siameh, who petitioned the Commission to intervene to get him paid compensation awarded by an Accra High Court in respect of 1,834.94 acres of land government had acquired also appeared before the Commission to present his case .
The case was filed Torgbi Bormorde Siameh against the Quality Grains Company Limited, Lands Commission and the Lands Valuation Board as a result of land acquired for the Aveyime Rice Project in the Volta Region.
According to the Commission, 19 other claimants were also asking for compensation from government on the same land.
